Brazilian Troops preparing to deploy

Brazil has begun deploying some 30,000 troops along borders as a security measure to counter any threat during the FIFA World Cup 2014. The operation involving Brazil’s army, navy and air force began on Saturday and the troops are being deployed to oversee the country’s 16,900-kilometer (10,500-mile) border with its 10 neighbors.

“It is the single largest mobilization carried out by the state to combat illegal activity from the north to the south of the country,” the Brazilian government said in a statement.
